what makes a page hard to read?

style

• white text on a black background
• lots of different fonts
• confusing text colours (avoid blue, as this is often used for weblinks)
• too much underlining (most people think this means a weblink)
• overuse of CAPITAL LETTERS
• overuse of italics (slows people down...)

• long sentences that extend across the screen and go on and on and on and on and on
• long paragraphs
• centered or right-aligned paragraphs

• marketese and jargon (create a glossary if it's absolutely necessary)
